Research Interest
My primary research focus has been on the anesthesia and functional neurosurgery (Insertion of deep brain stimulators (DBS), Epilepsy surgery). My work in this field has been on the anesthesia management of patients undergoing DBS and use of anesthetic agents for seizure localization. Present and future avenues of research include the effect of different anesthetic agents on EEG spectrum from human hippocampus and to study the risk of delirium in patients with Parkinson’s disease following DBS surgery
My secondary research focus is on anesthesia and functional neuroimaging. With my colleagues at the Toronto Western Hospital I have been working on the technique of measuring cerebrovascular reactivity (CVR) to carbon dioxide using BOLD -MRI and precise targeting of carbon dioxide I joined the team in early 2011 and have been working to expand this technique of measuring CVR into a wider group of patients who are at risk of stroke. Present areas of research include is to study mechanism of anesthesia thro functional neuroimaging, use of functional neuroimaging as a tool to predict the clinical outcome in patients with neuropathic pain and for localization of seizure focus.
